Masonry – The Basics
Masonry is a building construction technique used to create permanent structures out of individual units of material such as earth, stone or brick, that are usually laid in and bound together with mortar; the word masonry refers to both the structures themselves and the mortar used in constructing them.
Asphalt paved areas are generally Masonry or Reinforced Concrete based because they offer the same basic benefits of traditional masonry buildings: durability, longevity, and aesthetic appeal. Asphalt is cheaper than stones or bricks and its high wear resistance makes it a popular choice for many residential and commercial projects.
Masonry is an extremely durable building material that offers both strength and aesthetics while requiring relatively little maintenance. Masonry is built with individual pieces of material joined together with mortise & tenon techniques and then fastened with steel ties or other metal components. It is widely preferred over other typical building materials because it is stronger than most other typical building materials such as bricks and concrete blocks; it is highly resistant to impact, erosion and heat; it is available in a wide range of colors, textures, and designs and because of its extreme durability it can last decades or even centuries.
